Lev 23:15-22 Deut 26:7-11 Acts 2:1-41

Long before Acts 2, Shavuot was an appointed time Yahweh spoke the Torah at Mount Sinai. This has been commonly called the “Giving Of The Torah” and “The Day Of The First Fruits.”

Before tongues of fire ever fell upon the believers in Jerusalem, there was fire falling on Mount Sinai as the entire nation of Israel gathered to celebrate the giving of the Torah. Yet years later, the disciples of our risen Messiah gathered to celebrate Shavuot in Jerusalem where suddenly, “a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filed the whole house where they were sitting. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the spirit enabled them.”

The festival of Shavuot commemorates the receiving of Torah by the entire nation of Israel at Mt. Sinai fifty days after exiting Egypt. This “Day Of The First Fruits” was marked largely by the offering of the seasons firstfruits from all over the land of Israel as a gesture of profound gratitude to the Holy One for all the abundance with which He had blessed His people, material as well as spiritual.

Let us all bring our “firstfruits” before the throne room of our Father to show gratitude to Him for the abundance He has bestowed upon us both materially as well as spiritually. Let this day be the pattern of redemption Abba has appointed us to keep by interacting with Him and by being filled with the Holy Spirit that guides and directs us in keeping the whole Torah!

Happy Shavuot!!
