The name Katrina was, until recently, a little know name. However, now, the name has it’s unique place in history. The name itself, as far as history goes, will reside beside names such as Hitler, Attila The Hun, Stalin etc….for the death and destruction it has wrought.
We all have seen and responded in many different ways to this disaster.
Our President made a statement the other night during his nationally televised speech from Jackson Square in New Orleans that deserves a greater scrutiny. The President spoke of the storm, Katrina, being a random force of destruction that basically just happened!
Is this statement correct? Is it a fact? Maybe we need to put a huge magnifying glass over this question and bring it up closer so that it might be better understood.
Joe Friday, of the old Dragnet Series, used to say, “Just The Facts Ma’am!”
Is the force of nature a force all it’s own, or does it have a supreme “Mother” as we classically refer to it as? Is it possible that it’s a very directed and guided force, and not a random one at all?
So, the question should be asked, “Did Katrina have a mind of her own?” Did she randomly choose her own course and path?
Romans 1:20 says, “Man is without excuse for questioning His divine existence”. The proof is all around us of God’s power, qualities and presence.
II Tim 3:16 records that, “All scripture is God breathed and inspired!” This statement of fact allows us to stand fully and uncompromising on God’s entire word from Genesis to Revelation!
So my friends, lets open the Holy Book and briefly, but truthfully obtain some facts! Once again, “Just The Facts Please!”
Job 37:13 says, “I, God, use the weather to both bless, or punish mankind!”
Amos 3:6 says, “When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it?”
In fact, Job 37 and 38 go into much detail describing God’s awesome sovereignty and power.
As we look at the destruction to New Orleans, Gulfport, Biloxi and the surrounding area, can we not glean and have our eyes opened to a passage like Amos 3:6?
Dear readers, the question could be asked, “Are we missing something here?” Is God speaking to us? Is He trying to open our eyes and ears to those who will see and hear?
June 10, 2005, I officially launched Watchmen’s Voice Ministry in Tupelo MS. I told the audience that night that this nation was soon going to hear His voice. This knowledge or premonition, call it what you will, had been put into my mind and spirit so strongly.
A friend of mine and my wife’s had sent us the week that Katrina struck, her scripture study centered around Psalm 29!! What an eye opening passage of word this chapter proved to be.
Take the time dear readers to scan it for yourselves. “The voice of God”, as it relates, “comes in on the mighty waters, it twists and strips the mighty oaks” and it speaks of God “being in and enthroned over the flood waters!” What an awesome, eye opening, and yes, red flag warning to us all.
I think these few passages, and there are so many others, demonstrate that the Creator is not some kind of deist God who created all things and then just walked away into the heavenly sunset. Our God is MUCH more of a hands on God then is generally recognized and presented by much of theology. Once again, let’s stick to the facts!!
We can take great comfort and trust from Hebrews 13:8 that tells us “Yeshua Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever!”
It seems today that we have a dual problem to deal with. One problem is the cry from some that there is no God. The other problem, which is a growing problem, is that much of theology is recreating the Great God into something or somebody that’s false.
These two statements represent the hard cold facts of this age.
The name Katrina itself means basically “pure” or “to purify”!
I submit to all who are reading this article, that indeed the Creator is speaking to us. The Mighty One of Israel, known as Yahweh, has many ways that He speaks. Katrina was quite an event or news story.
What is, I would ask, the real significance behind this awesome destructive force?
I challenge you, the reader, to study for yourself, and get the facts!
